Artist's Statement

With his paintings David conveys a lived experience, either directly on site of the subject or recalled later in the studio through memory. He paints directly on site beginning with a compositional drawing and then proceeds to paint his subject to a point where it ceases being a replication of the subject and transforms into a painting of his experience based in the qualities of the paint and how he manipulates its character. His paintings feature a strong structural composition, high-keyed colors, energetic brushstrokes, balance of lights and darks, and fluid movement over the composition.

Born near Conway, Arkansas in 1943.
